Dr. Ekstrom has been in private practice for over thirty years in the Boston area and has seen patients with a wide range of problems. In particular, he has worked with patients seeking help with depression, anxiety, and PTSD (Posttraumatic Stress Disorder). He has also helped patients going through professional and occupational transitions, artists and writers wishing to restore access to their creativity and persons with long-term or permanent disabilities.
Dr. Ekstrom is a licensed psychologist in Massachusetts and a certified psychoanalyst (The Registry of Psychoanalyst, NAAP).
Dr. Ekstrom has a doctorate in psychology (PhD) from The Union Institute, Cincinnati OH, and is a graduate of the CG Jung Institute –Zürich, Switzerland, where he received his analytic training. He also has a Masters Degree from Stockholm University where he studied literature and theatre.

Aside from being a graduate of the CG Jung Institute – Zürich, Dr. Ekstrom has training in Family Systems Therapy and Self Psychology and has attended many special seminars and workshop on topics such as psychological trauma, neuroscience and psychotherapy, professional ethics in mental health, and psychotherapy research. He also continues to seek training in new and emerging approaches to psychotherapy.
In his doctoral training, Dr. Ekstrom specialized in abnormal psychology, assessment and diagnosis. He is also well versed in neurocognitive psychology and dream research.
